About Us

Ratoath Heritage Group was founded in the mid 1980s by a group of like-minded locals who came together with a view to working towards the preservation of local historical sites and recording of the history and folklore of the Ratoath area.

Local history is especially important for those individuals whose area it describes and the stories it unfolds. This is a first step for the people of Ratoath as it is developing a newer, larger and more diverse community. An account of local history and stories provides this new community with a link to the past, creating a new opportunity for learning about the local dimension so that the newly created community is able to move forward together.

For hundreds of years Ratoath had remained unchanged, a quiet little village nestling in the south-east of County Meath.
